How to Figure Out What You Want To Be When You Grow Up

Everyone has been asked the question ‘What you want to be when you grow up?‘ at different points of time in their life, and in a majority of cases, the answer ends up being different. When we are younger, we are frequently changing, and with that change, what we want changes too. As a result of this change, it becomes difficult to start on the right path to becoming what we want to be. Finding out what you want to spend years and hours of your life on in the future is difficult because most career options go deeper than we can imagine at the start.

Think About What You Love

What You Want To Be When You Grow UpThis is a generic question you must ask yourself in order to get closer to a final answer. What you love gives you a starting point from where to start deciding on your career path. Once you figure out what the things you love are, you can try researching what a career in that subject is like. For example, if you want to be a writer, you will need to find out that there are many different types of writing, like copywriting, research writing, creative writing and more.

Exploring in depth the nature of work and industry you want to be involved with will give you a good career direction, as well as an understanding of the more monotonous parts of the job which you may not enjoy. If you still decide to pursue a course, then maybe you can try your hand at some of the work before you make a concrete life-changing decision. Even if you do not end up being at the heart of the subject, you can still involve yourself around it.

Are You A People Person?

Some jobs require you to meet many people and interact with them on a daily basis. If you like talking to people and being around them, then you can consider a job that is in line with sales or marketing roles. The great thing about these roles is that they exist in any industry, whether it is art, music, banking etc.

If you do not like high interaction, then you can consider other jobs where you would not have to interact with too many people in a single day, such as an IT job, or something in the arts where you will have to work alone for the most part.

Sedentary or Mobile?

Do you like being in one place, or to go on the move? Staying in one place will give you stability in your life and allow you to plan routines for yourself. Travelling excessively can be highly rewarding, but it is also a difficult lifestyle if you are not prepared for it.

Considering these aspects will make it easier for you to decide if the career path you are thinking of following is right for you. Choosing the right career path is a combination of what is available to you and what your preferences are as a person. So now you know how to answer what you want to be when you grow up.
